LUSH LAUNCHES A NEW LIMITED-EDITION BATH BOMB FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Lush Cosmetics are proud to announce their new bath bomb, the ‘Black Glitter Surprise’, in collaboration with the amazing charity ‘Show Racism the Red Card’, in order to raise awareness for the Black History Month. This exclusive product will be released in all Lush stores in the UK and will be available from the 1st to the 31stof October 2021.

The limited-edition new bath bomb product will be of a simplistic appearance made up of black and pink colours. The exciting part of the product will be discovered once the bath bomb hits the water. A black glittery sea salt will be released, as well as a waterproof piece of red paper with an educational fact about racism on one side and the charity’s website on the other side in order to promote further donations. The product will release a jasmine scent, due to its uplifting capabilities, giving consumers a sense of hope regarding race equality.

The simple appearance but surprising inside will translate the message of ‘not judging a book by its cover’, and in this context not judging a person by its appearance.

This launch is set to make the general public conscious of the ongoing issue of race inequality, as well as to promote simple actions that can be taken. In addition, Lush is set to donate 80% of revenue made from this product to the charity, and the founder Ged Grebby stated: “The money made from these sales will allow us to drastically increase the number of workshops, trainings and activities we organise, which will make a remarkable difference in raising awareness.”

More than a year after George Floyd’s tragic death, this launch is particularly relevant, and it is essential to keep fighting for justice.

Note to editors:

- About Lush: Lush is a handmade cruelty free cosmetic brand based in Poole, UK and founded in 1995. The company operates in 49 countries world-wide. Lush has always been vocal about its views concerning social issues and political issues, and shared immediate steps to support the Black Lives Matter movement following the death of George Floyd. Although, this is the first time that Lush is planning on launching a product regarding anti-racism.

- About the charity: ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ is a leading anti-racism educational charity based in the UK that works with footballers in order to spread their anti-racist messages. They provide educational workshops, training sessions, school activities, teacher training and competitions all with the purpose of tackling racism in society.

- About Black History Month: In the UK, Black History Month is held in October. The event was first launched in London in the 1980s, where the aim was for the local community to challenge racism and educate themselves and others about the British history that was not taught in schools. It is now an event to recognise the contribution that black people have made to the UK over many generations.

- About George Floyd: George Floyd was a 46-year-old man who died after being violently arrested by police outside a shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His tragic death sparked a world-wide movement, the Black Lives Mater (BLM) movement, in order to fight against police brutality, black inferiority and race inequality. After the tragedy, all police officers responsible for his death were arrested, but were soon all released from prison. Justice was not served, and it is essential to continue fighting, which is why Lush’s new launch is of particular relevance.
